The number one skill of this century, that needs to be mastered, is to steer the growing pace of change in life towards our desired states. This means that in our present state we need to build windmills rather than walls. Learning how to steer yourself in the direction of desired change requires performance. This means choosing what you want to develop and gathering the physical, mental, and emotional talent and resources for the heroic journey. This is the victory of self-leadership.
Part of our talents and resources are found in the interaction of mind and brain. We need to communicate our desired state objectives to the subconscious mind. We can then set the path for the journey (a mental map) and form a vision of the outcome. It is all about balance – activating the left brain and the right brain and forms a pathway to the subconscious mind.
The Right Brain is visionary, expansive, creative, emotional and intuitive. It is our self-leadership brain. The Right Brain is used to IMAGINE outcomes. The Left Brain is the brain of symmetry and order. It is our self-management brain. It is the brain that develops structure, experience and pathways. The Left Brain is used to BELIEVE and therefore identify courses of action.
We need to REFLECT on these leadership and management profiles and visualize and define a balanced outcome. We achieve this with a balance between both brains. Creativity and vision from the right half is balanced with impact and intentionality from the left half. The end result is a balanced mind and brain – a balanced mandala with affirmations for the Left Brain and symbols for the Right Brain.
REFLECTION is important at this time. A balanced mind and brain is very effective at steering us along the path of the heroic journey from present state to desired state, and developing our talents and resources we believe we have. Our desired state is what we imagine it to be. Balance gives us true genius and the impetus for physical performance.
REFLECTION is also important so that along the journey we avoid becoming conditioned by the influences of the world around us and become more and more Left Brain dominant. We live in a culture which believes we do most of what we do consciously with the Left Brain. Yet, most of what we do, and what we do well, we do best subconsciously, incorporating the Right Brain.
Staying balanced between conscious and subconscious minds and our left and right hemispheres means using Visual Analog Techniques to maintain good balance. The conscious mind checks the route of the journey, maintaining direction, and the subconscious mind leads in response to the management instructions. The subconscious serves as your own personal auto-pilot.
Your journey to the desired state and life balance TRANSCENDS your goals and achieves your prime purpose. For the heroic journey you need to gather a resource box and tool kit of information, ideas, principles, concepts, and methods. TRANSCEND means to be in an informal position, a resourced position. You achieve a paradigm shift – a switch of perception from seeing the world one way to now seeing it quite differently. Your attitudes and behaviour will have changed. You will be performing at a different level.
The process we practice of enhancing performance uses the four stages – IMAGINE – BELIEVE – REFLECT – TRANSCEND. It is a multidimensional process and means:
- Securing the higher ground
- Understanding the driving forces
- Mastering the syntax of success
- Synergising the ten areas of health and wellness
