Nutrition is one of the keys to good health, and has a positive effect on mental and physical well-being. Despite our very best of intentions to eat healthily, our modern western lifestyle often leads us to experience nutritional deficiencies, which can have subtle to profound effects on our lives.
Natural holistic nutrition gives you the information you need to heal yourself and prevent illness, increase wellbeing and longevity.

Why have we become nutrient deficient?
In a perfect world we would be able to eat organic and seasonally available foods, that provided us with freshness and diversity, foods that did not have the remnants of sprays and pesticides, had not been in storage for months, had nutrient levels that were not effected by over farming and had been prepared using traditional methods i.e. steaming, stir frying, poaching and eating foods raw. Unfortunately our world is not perfect and our 21st century lifestyle takes its toll on our nutritional status and long term wellbeing.

Nutritional deficiencies
Nutritional deficiencies do not occur overnight, but may take months or years to become noticeable. Often patients report that they “have been unwell since…” (usually a stress situation of some kind). It is at these times that nutritional deficiencies become more pronounced.

You may have recently been to the doctor for your annual blood tests and been told that there are no abnormalities.
Yet you have noticed that

  • Your nails are ridged and there are white spots on them,
  • Your hair id brittle and dry,
  • You have developed bloating and fullness after eating,
  • Just not feeling like your old self.

These signs may indicate a sub-clinical or Type 2 nutrient depletion. In other words, a nutritional deficiency that does not display clinical signs, such as scurvy, as indicated by severe gum disorders due to lack of vitamin C.

Signs of Type 2 Nutrient Depletion include:

  • Tiredness
  • Mental and physical weakness
  • Fatigue and exhaustion
  • Loss of appetite and eating disorders
  • Change in body composition, weight gain, despite dieting
  • Muscle weakness
  • Apathy and mental dullness
  • Chronic low-grade depression
  • Reduced stress tolerance
  • Burping and flatulence
  • Heartburn
  • Poor immune function

Many people with symptoms described above may take nutritional supplements. Whilst this is a good place to start, there may be other factors that need addressing and this is where a naturopath will be able to assist you with:

  • Nutritional and dietary assessment
  • Digestive issues
  • Detoxification
  • Diet therapy
  • Supplementation to suit your personal requirements
  • Food sensitivity and allergies testing
