Mental Health is actually something we seek.  It is the opposite of mental illness.

A mentally healthy person is one who is generally functioning at a high level of emotional, reactive, and behavioural adjustment with high levels of adaptive skills (coping skills).  This is much more than simply not being mentally ill.

Mentally healthy people try to understand why they are feeling out of sync with themselves and try to eliminate the factors causing their emotional distress.

On the Wellness wheel, rate your health and wellness balance on each of the Ten Areas of Health and Wellness by filling in the appropriate number on the chart.  What changes do you need to make?

Common causes of a decline in Mental Health:

  • Overwork and too many demands on your time
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Loss of someone or something important in your life
  • Financial difficulties
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Substance abuse or dependency
  • Inability to lose weight
  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Genetic or family history factor
  • Health concerns

Nutritional supplements help the mind, body, brain systems produce more of the right elements for mental health.  Omega 3 Fatty Acids, Vitamin B group, and minerals such as magnesium can help relax the mind, body, brain system and along with improved sleep, balanced emotions, Vitamin C, and planned diet and lifestyle, can improve your well being.

Fresh fruit and vegetable juice, when combined with the above factors, can improve cognition and motivation.  Today we need nutritional, psychological, and lifestyle strategies to protect our fragile mind, body, brain system from toxic environments and the demands of life.

Mental ill-health can be self perpetuating, creating a negative emotional spiral, unless we get help.  What does your wellness wheel look like?  Where might you need help?
