Developing a career path means being a player, chasing after your potential.  A career path is a journey of success, at the level you want.  Like all journeys it begins at a present state and moves to a desired state.  The journey utilizes two sets of resources:

1
  • Capability
  • Intelligence
  • Aptitude
  • Belief
  • Spirituality & Environment
2
  • Decision making
  • Habits & Behaviour
  • Perseverance & Persistence
  • Self Belief and Identity
  • Desire

Success is both the journey itself and the outcome and involves what you have and what you do with what you have (see the boxes above).  Talent itself is not enough.  It is all about what you become as a result of the journey.

We see the journey in four phases, and the aim is to keep it simple.

IMAGINE

"Imagination is more imprtant than Knowledge" - Einstein

What will success look like?
It is important to be driven by vision and begin with the end in mind.

Your goals act like a compass, but your vision is your true north. While you adjust your position on the journey, vision is a constant.

BELIEVE

Wishes and hopes are OK, but will really not lead to success.  You must know and you must therefore believe what you are trying to do.  Discipline and commitment builds the bridge between vision and accomplishment.

REFLECT

"You can' t solve a problem with the same mind that created it." Einstein

Take time out to ponder - get perspective and balance. Inspiration always comes when we are in a relaxed mode - in the zone. "Thought is action in rehearsal," said Sigmund Freud. Problems, persistence, opportunity and outcome usually appear in that order.

TRANSCEND Means turning, vision into reality by achieving your goals, and using both sides of your brain in the process.  The real value of goals is not simply in achieving then, but how they help you become the person it takes to achieve them.
