Traumatic information can be lost to consciousness and conscious thought, and becomes embedded in our subconscious. Information also gets lost in this filing system and gets stored out of conscious awareness or consciousness. Clinical hypnotherapy is about awareness and guiding a person to health and wellness, with care and safety. It is a specialized field and demands specialized training and experience. People with trauma issues need time to heal.
A large number of natural rhythms are also stored subconsciously. We do not think about breathing, or maintaining a heartbeat, or blinking our eyes, and so on. But we can be stirred to action by a faster heart rate and lulled into calmness by a slower one. This is also true for breathing. We are all aware of the sensations of relaxed breathing and the difference when we are aroused, and how we respond to these changes. This reaction is stored at a level beyond awareness. It can show up when we listen to our favourite music, and music played at Alpha statue wave level (7-12 cycles/second), for example, may influence brainwave activity, and may produce relaxation.
Subconscious cues for situations like rest, relaxation and arousal can be communicated to people to help create the states we want in others in very predictable ways, shifting people’s consciousness into a mode for learning. These cues are mostly unnoticed by the conscious mind but register with the subconscious very deeply with a sense of calm and safety. In Clinical Hypnotherapy, a huge amount of professional craft and skill is utilized in getting this right so that it is useful as a therapeutic strategy.
Clinical Hypnotherapy represents a set of techniques used to help people harness the power of their mind in creating desired outcomes. Clear images of what they need and want are seen and made real in order to make them happen.

Visual language and visualization is harnessed with the other languages of the internal world – auditory and kinesthetic – so the image is experienced personally and within the ecological context of the external world.
This means that people have relative strengths in each of the processing languages – visual – auditory and kinesthetic. This is the same as the different languages of different computer processing systems. In Clinical Hypnotherapy we utilize these different processing systems to effect tangible external change. The storehouse of the subconscious mind is utilized in creating clear and focused positive outcomes and goals and resources, in the process of Clinical Hypnotherapy.
Future outcomes are created as images as people learn how to focus their mind to imagine, believe, reflect, and then transcend problem states to create outcomes and projects as a desired state that they really want.
Try this exercise:
In a lightly darkened room, that is cool and comfortable, sit in a comfortable position in a comfortable chair. Close your eyes lightly, and begin breathing slowly and deeply - as slow and as deep as is comfortable. Control the air in and control the air out.
After five of these breaths, breathe in slowly, hold your breath for five seconds, and slowly control your breath out. Carry out five of these.
Then continue this for another five breaths, saying quietly to yourself something like “good air in” – “bad air out” on the in and out breaths. Keep it all slow and rhythmic.
Repeat the process if you like and feel yourself sinking into connectedness with the chair.
Recall a pleasant experience or a pleasant place, and with your eyes still closed, explore what you can see in this experience and place. Listen for the sounds that occur. After a while, notice what you feel, such as temperature, or movement, or smell or taste. Then notice how you feel. Spend some time exploring this experience/place in this way.
If this has worked for you, then you have engaged in a form of Clinical Hypnotherapy, which can be deepened and enhanced so that these imaginings and reflections can be utilized.
The value of experiencing Clinical Hypnotherapy lies in attaining the power to heal your mind – body – brain system through the power to learn and the power to create changes in your life. If you have the power to respond to relaxation and the hypnotic phenomenon of the exercise completed, then you have the potential to produce healing powers in yourself. If you have clear communication with your subconscious mind you can do this.
